Well, I think it was established in a chat yesterday that I stumbled upon the music of Wainscott approximately 5 or 6 years ago, via the old incarnation of 'MySpace'. I played a couple of his tunes and to my memory, observed that to my ears he had a sound not unlike that of Paul Van Dyk, and that I very much enjoyed the music. I can't remember how much of my own music I'd posted on my profile at that time, but it could well have been a combination of old Ejay creations, and a few new remixes from the collaboration site 'Indaba Music'. For the record, I highly recommend the site for any budding remixers out there!
In addition to the discography that will be mentioned below, newer track additions include remixes for Filth + Glitch in the form of 'Improvise' and 'Flow' - which I have also remixed.
Right, back to the artist.
Born in London and Kent raised, Paul Faulkner carries the artist name 'Wainscott' (his house music identity) also makes Trance music under the tag 'Luna'. He also has a chillout music tag of 'Komatoze'.
During his time in music thus far, Paul has been associated with 14 different electronic labels, via a combination of his original tracks and remixes. Wainscott is the name of a village near where he lives. For some reason he liked the name so he borrowed it! He is by his own admission, not a DJ and says the DJ/club world is not really where he comes from. His interest originally was more with pop music in the late 80's which eventually lead to an interest in dance music and electronic music in general.
Until just recently, Paul has almost exclusively used hardware to create his sounds - which I feel is a rarity these days, with his main piece of equipment being an Akai MPC1000 sampler.
He learned to play the piano from the age of 6-12 but got bored of just playing classical music alone, and needed to branch out. He also trained in musical theatre at Dartford College, where as well as composing original music he also played keyboards in shows such as 'Pinocchio' and 'Sweeney Todd'. He even got to program and perform techno music in one show!
He has an apparently rare talent - in being able to tell what key(s) a song or piece of music is in just by listening to it. If someone plays or sings any note, he can say instantly what it is. He can also stretch to chords, as long as they're not too complex.
As far as his own tastes go, Paul likes pop music just as long as it's well conceived and delivered. He don't care who's written or produced it, or who's sung it. He won't dislike a song, artist or band just on principle, as to him that is pointless!
His musical influences include: Axwell, Eric Prydz, Chromeo, Coldcut, Beatmasters, Inner City, Sueno Latino, Stock/Aitken/Waterman, Harding/Curnow, Pete Hammond, D Mob, Njoi, Shades Of Rhythm, K Klass, Seamus Haji, Calvin Harris, Junior Jack, Lil Louis, Congress, Black Box, Technotronic, Ben Liebrand, Soul II Soul, Bomb Da Bass, Krush, Adeva, Yazz, Cathy Dennis, Jinny, Xpansions, Kinetic, Slam, Hyper GoGo, KLF, Utah Saints, 2 Unlimited, Capella, Carl Cox, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Benny Benassi, FPI Project, Stakka Humanoid, Altern8, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, SL2, Josh Wink, Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Paul Hardcastle, Shalamar, Loose Ends, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, ABC, William Orbit, Trevor Horn.
